CRISPIN provides Total Automation to QVC
Raleigh, NC - October 29, 2001 - CRISPIN, the leading
provider of television automation systems, has been chosen by
e-commerce leader QVC to assist the company with the automatic
operation of content playback for select pre-produced spots. This
automation process is defined by two playback workstations that run
concurrently using Crispin's RapidPlayX to play back from Grass Valley
Group's XP Series Video Servers. Two additional workstations are used
for dubbing with Crispin's Dubber for the recording of programming
materials. The RapidPlayX Viewer is used to view the contents on the
Servers at any time, the DubberAssist creates automatic kill lists for
the Server, and the Dubber allows automatic dub lists to be created
and viewed. Crispin's ClipCop module is used to mirror, via fibre
channel, the two GVG XP Video Servers for playback and backup. Crispin
automation systems operate on Windows NT 4 workstations utilizing
TCP/IP to establish communication via a LAN to the Crispin
applications. "Crispin's cutting-edge technology provides for
more flexibility and creativity in our control room," said Tim
Megaw, QVC's senior vice president of television. "We can plan,
record and play all of our pre-produced spots with the touch of a
button."
QVC is also using Crispin's SmartWedge, which gives the system GPI
device control. The I/0 SmartWedge board is a microprocessor-based
programmable hardware device that interfaces to the serial port of a
PC and accepts up to 12 remote outputs and 12 GPI remote inputs, which
are opto-isolated.
