NBA Entertainment debutes a new nationwide DBS channel using
CRISPIN Automation.
November 2, 1999 - Secaucus, NJ - NBA Entertainment begins a
new direct broadcast satellite channel reaching a nationwide audience.
A core feature of this new channel will be a nightly seven-hour live
studio broadcast of NBA highlights from around the country. This
live broadcast, which airs from 7pm to 2 am EST, will feature Crispin
automation systems as its primary source of playback and recording of
highlights for the show.
Two channels of Crispin RapidPlayX software will be the primary
source of playback of highlights and features in the control room.
Playlists will be created "on the fly" by producers, then
triggered by a Grass Valley Group production switcher for playback to
air.
Most of the games and highlights are recorded at Phoenix
Communications, located almost five miles from the NBA Entertainment
studio. Crispin ClipPanel software, operating over a T-1
circuit, remotely controls record functions on the Profiles located at
the NBA studios for the dubbing of highlights.
The PDR-324 Profiles are also being controlled by six edit rooms
using GVG's "Toolbox Editor" software to assemble highlight
packages for air. After approval, the edited highlights are sent
over the network to the Crispin RapidPlayX software for airing.
The system is so fast that highlights are ready to be aired before
scripts can be provided to the talent.
The critical piece of the system is Crispin ClipCop software that
automatically mirrors the finished pieces to both Profiles for airing.
This provides the total redundancy needed for critical live
broadcasts. For more information, call CRISPIN 919-845-7744 or
