Triveni Digital GuideBuilder™ Interface for Crispin
Automation Systems Enhances PSIP Schedule Accuracy.
GuideBuilder Interface will Enables Broadcasters
Using Crispin Systems to Meet FCC’s More Stringent
Guidelines for PSIP Data.
PRINCETON, N.J. — July
19, 2008
Triveni Digital, a subsidiary of LG Electronics
(LGE), has addressed the recent FCC Report and
Order (R&O) regarding PSIP (Program and System
Information Protocol) schedules by fast tracking
the development a new interface for broadcasters
using the company’s GuideBuilder™ PSIP generator
along with Crispin broadcast automation and traffic
interface solutions. By supporting a seamless
exchange of data between the Triveni Digital and
Crispin systems, the new interface will enable
broadcasters to maintain PSIP schedules that accurately
reflect even last-minute changes.
“As standards and regulations for DTV delivery
continue to evolve, we’re committed to working
with partners in the industry to ensure that our
customers have the tools they need for successful
digital broadcast operations,” said Dr. Richard
Chernock, CTO at Triveni Digital. “GuideBuilder
is being developed to help broadcasters deliver
error-free DTV broadcasts, and this new interface
will allow Crispin users to continue to provide
healthy transport streams that comply with FCC
PSIP requirements.”
Transparent sharing of PSIP data between the GuideBuilder
and Crispin systems will be made possible through
use of standardized PCMP technology, which will
guarantee a smooth flow of critical scheduling
data. The full set of information for events,
including those last-minute changes that are the
focus of the FCC R&O, thus can be delivered
from the Crispin software to the GuideBuilder
system.
Mandated by the FCC, PSIP forms the foundation
for ATSC digital television transport streams
and is important for digital cable carriage of
over-the-air (OTA) broadcasts. Addressing the
2009 digital switchover, the GuideBuilder PSIP
generator from Triveni Digital adheres to the
latest changes in the PSIP standard as dictated
by the recent FCC R&O. New features include
fully automated redundancy, enhancements to support
centralized PSIP, and tight integration with multiplexers
and automation systems.
The GuideBuilder system provides mission-critical
operational capabilities for both content providers
and network operators by generating accurate PSIP
data. Errors in PSIP data can cause lapses in
the DTV signal, problems with closed captioning,
v-chip data, and errors with electronic program
guides (EPG) — all significant concerns for broadcasters.
GuideBuilder is also applicable in cable and IPTV
networks in meeting their DTV signaling and EPG
needs.
The interface for Crispin broadcast automation
and traffic interface will be available soon as
a GuideBuilder option and may be instituted through
a simple software update.
